about

Amelia Osborne takes the lead vocal on this track and brings this retelling of a classic Irish ghost story to life. The legends heroine meets a watery grave escaping Dunluce castle to be with her true love. To this day, castle visitors are said to hear wails and shrieking on the wind, as her spirit searches for a rescue that will never come.

lyrics

The Cruel Sea (The Banshee of Dunluce Castle)
©️2021Tom Eure

Verse 1:
Since my birth my hand was promised
Betrothed I was nay to my love
Turret high became my prison
A cell, a torture, my home

Chorus:
Still I see you floating there on the ocean
Set to free me from MacQuillan’s tower
Love that kindles fleeting hope clinging passion
All for not against the cruel sea’s power

Verse 2:
Love’s own mind, in all it’s mysteries
Made way for hope, removed despair
Afoot a plan to flee my fortress
Soon my love forever I would hold

Chorus:

Verse 3:
Caverns deep to stormy darkness
Upon a boat my champion rowed
Mercilessly tossed to salty depths
Hand in hand succumbed as one

Chorus:

Verse 4:
Now for all time cursed by fortune
My song the northeast tower fills
The Banshee song of Dunluce Castle
Floats upon the whistling wind

Chorus:
